We are so small. In the billions of years that our Earth has been around, our existence is but a mere speck in time. We are like the breeze that blows, the flower that fades, the dream that flies away. Although we are small life feels big – from the things we want to change to the resistance we encounter when we try to make a difference. As much as it breaks my heart to live in a society that actively destroys our environment, values profit more than people, and idealizes competition as an essential component of success, it equally fills my heart with hope, appreciation and gratitude when I pay attention to the little things, the small signs of progress and growth. Photographing tiny people forces me to pause, take on new perspectives, embrace patience as the wind, sun and setting challenge my illusion of control and create narratives that both affirm and contest my suspicion of where we’re heading especially if our pollinators continue to vanish and the stories we've been taught to believe persist. More than anything these tiny worlds make me smile. They bring me joy. It’s small moments that add up to big change. It is the little things that make a world of difference.
